On the news this week is Rebecca Solnit’s paperback Orwell’s Rosesa new exploration of politics and gardening through the California Book Club of September 2021 author. Solnit examines George Orwell’s life in a new light, from his anonymous journeys deep into the coal mines of England to his involvement with farming. The Passengerby Cormac McCarthy, reviewed by Alta, an exciting new addition to the list. The novel – the first of two related volumes – follows Bobby Western as he investigates a plane crash and investigates a possible government shutdown.
