Cristiano Ronaldo has received an offer to play in his 40s with Saudi giants Al-Nasr who are willing to offer him a three-year contract after the World Cup, according to CBS Sports sources.

Ronaldo is a free agent after his contract with Manchester United was terminated earlier this week, and he has long been of interest to Al-Nasr club, as well as other clubs in the Middle East. CBS Sports revealed in August that this interest would extend beyond the World Cup, The 37-year-old was keen to play at the highest level in Europe in his fifth appearance in the tournament. In Portugal’s opening match against Ghana, Ronaldo set another international record, scoring in his fifth World Cup.

After the tournament, Al-Nasr hopes that Ronaldo will be keen to open new horizons, and after extensive talks with his representatives, sources close to the club say that their interest is “stronger than ever.” It is understood that the terms offered to Ronaldo are worth $75 million a year.

Since contact began over the summer, talks are believed to be relatively advanced but await Ronaldo’s final decision. If he chooses to accept the offer, sources tell CBS Sports the deal won’t take long to finalize.

Ronaldo asked to leave Manchester United in the summer, but none of Europe’s biggest clubs were willing to provide him the Champions League football platform he so craved. After an explosive interview with Talk TV in which he accused United of “betraying” him and said he had no respect for team coach Erik ten Hag – remarks that could have led to him sacking the club if a mutual termination had not been agreed – it seems unlikely that the market has grown between elite on the continent.

Al-Nassr is one of the Saudi clubs, and even the most successful in Asia, winning nine league titles and reaching the final of the AFC Champions League in 1995. Great rivals Al-Hilal have also been linked with the transfer of Ronaldo. It is understood that the victory bid is the only official contract offered to the Portugal international, whose future is expected to remain unresolved until the World Cup.

The goalscoring record holder in men’s international football, Ronaldo has struggled to make a significant impact on Manchester United’s success after joining from Juventus in the summer of 2021. Although he was top scorer last season with 24 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions, However, United backed off. From second place in the Premier League the previous season to sixth. The appointment of Erik ten Hag saw Ronaldo restricted to a marginal role, starting just four league matches. Prior to the interview leading to his departure, the veteran striker had been embroiled in several other controversies, leaving the field early during a pre-season friendly and refusing to enter the game as a substitute in the defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.
