Press release
Houston, Texas, November 14, 2022 – Today, Crown Castle Inc. (NYSE: CCI), the nation’s leading provider of shared communications infrastructure, announced a national partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as part of its Connected by Good initiative. “Crown Castle Connects Youth to STEM Program.” It aims to inspire the next generation of young people to shape a future in STEM and supports the overall needs of more than 50 Boys & Girls Clubs in communities across the country.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in STEM fields should grow by 8% by 2029 – more than double the expected growth for all jobs in the US1 But diversity in STEM fields has not kept pace with this growth. Today, very few elementary, middle, and high school students are interested in or adequately prepared for STEM subjects. 2 This is especially true for young men and women of color who are already underrepresented in the STEM workplace. Boys & Girls Clubs members show more interest in STEM careers than their peers on average nationally, with 52% of members showing interest compared to the national average of 27%.
“Early exposure to STEM is a powerful way to inspire young people to get excited about learning and explore new ways of thinking. With the incredible reach and influence of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we are able to impact youth in our communities and ultimately expand their opportunities,” said Jay, Chief Executive Officer of Crown Castle. Brown said. “At Crown Castle we know that building a team of people from diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives is key to our innovation and success.”
Over the next two years, Crown Castle will invest approximately $2 million in the partnership through employee volunteering and financial support. Crown Castle connects young people to STEM program events:
- Crown Castle Clean-Up Days 2022 will allow employees from across the country to volunteer to clean and restore local clubs during the week of 14-18 November 2022.
- Crown Castle Holiday offering in December 2022.
- Crown Castle STEM Inspiration Days are scheduled for summer 2023, where employee volunteers will guide club youth through foundational and fun STEM activities at partner clubs.
“We are honored to have the support of Crown Castle as we continue to enhance STEM resources for all young people in clubs nationwide,” said Jim Clark, president and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “As our world becomes more STEM-focused, partnerships like this are critical to inspiring the next generation to develop the essential skills needed to succeed after high school and in the workforce.”
