Far Cry 6’s Lost Between Worlds expansion traps players in a surreal alien simulation

Ubisoft has launched Lost Between Worlds, a new expansion for Far Cry 6 that will take players to a cracked version of Yara when it launches on December 6th.

Lost Between Worlds’ extraterrestrial action begins when Far Cry 6 protagonist Dani Rojas stumbles across a crashed alien ship inhabited by an alien AI known as the FAI. Unfortunately for Dani, the FAI quickly closes the area and demands that they embark on a mission to find the five crystals needed to repair their ship – each hidden in a mysterious place containing a broken replica of Yara.

There are ordinary places twisted into a surreal architectural kaleidoscope, some submerged under water, and others destroyed by endless lightning storms. Every rift consists of multiple routes through orange and purple portals, and players will need to use their fighting, parkour, and puzzle skills to choose their path and find the crystal stored in each one.

Combat is also slightly different from the Far Cry 6 tradition in Lost Between Worlds, using a color-matching mechanic that sees players switch between red and blue ammo on the fly to take down enemies of the same color.

Based on the details shared in Ubisoft’s live stream, Lost Between Worlds seems to have a rough touch, with players needing to cross the cracks more than once, getting stronger and getting new gear with each successfully retrieved crystal. Finding a crystal within a rift allows players to jump to that point in the future, and finding the likes of a Rift Key will allow them to open doors in each rift to create further shortcuts in the next run. Similarly, players can unlock the Fractal Bomb, which can blow up crystal walls to reveal new hidden weapons and goodies, as well as grappling with additional options for crossing.
