Kanye West: Gap and Foot Locker remove all Yeezy merchandise

New York

As the company’s controversy over Kanye West escalates, Gap has announced that it is pulling the rapper’s Yeezy Gap product line from its stores and shutting down YeezyGap.com. Additionally, Foot Locker is pulling Yeezy products from its shelves.

“Our ex’s recent comments and behavior confirm why we are taking immediate action to remove the Yeezy Gap product from our stores,” the retailer said in a statement on Tuesday.

In the past few weeks, retailers, social media platforms, celebrities and fashion and entertainment companies have withdrawn from business partnerships with West because of the opposition’s comments on the podcast, and on Twitter, among other controversial actions.

“Anti-Semitism, racism and hatred in any form is inexcusable and unacceptable according to our culture. On behalf of our customers, employees and partners, we are joining organizations that fight against hate and discrimination,” Gap announced.

Gap’s moves follow Adidas’ statement on Tuesday that the company had ended its partnership with West, who has officially changed his name to Ye, “with immediate effect.”

Also on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the retailer Foot Locker (FL) said that it is still “a partner with adidas and the various carriers of their collection – we will not support any future Yeezy product drops, and we have instructed our retailers to pull any existing product from our shelves and digital locations.”

Gap Inc. (GPS) and Kanye West last month both announced that they were ending a 10-year partnership that was inked in 2020 with his fashion company Yeezy.

The first piece from Yeezy Gap was a $200 jacket, which sold out immediately online when it debuted. The next few launches from the brand, including other jackets and hoodies, also sold out instantly.

West expanded his Yeezy Gap merchandise line by bringing in exclusive fashion powerhouse brand Balenciaga to launch the “Yeezy Gap Engineered By Balenciaga” collection. In July, the collection began selling in Gap stores for the first time.

In mid-September, West said he was ending his partnership with Gap due to “gross insubordination.” Balenciaga last week announced that it was cutting ties with Ye.

The rapper’s attorney Nicholas Gravante said in a statement in September that West was left “with no choice but to end their relationship” because he says the retailer breached their relationship by not opening Yeezy stores and distributing his clothing as he had planned, among other things. .

Gap confirmed the same day that it had pulled the plug on the Yeezy partnership. But he had previously said that the existing products would continue to be sold in the company’s stores and on its website until the middle of the first half of 2023, a decision that he later reversed.
