
Syracuse, New York – Yoan Rodriguez, 24, of Syracuse, was sentenced today to serve a total of 120 months in prison based on his earlier guilty pleas to drug trafficking and firearms offenses, United States Attorney Carla B. Friedman, Special Agent in Charge, announced. Charge Frank A. Tarantino, III, US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division, Special Agent in Charge Janine DiGuiseppi, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Albany Field Office, and Police Chief Joseph Cecile, Syracuse Police Department. Rodriguez was ordered to serve a five-year term of supervised release upon his release from prison and forfeited to the United States a handgun and a money judgment in the amount of $35,000.00, representing the value of unrecoverable drug proceeds.
Rodriguez was one of 14 accused in the case. The investigation revealed that members of the conspiracy brought kilograms of heroin and fentanyl from Pennsylvania to Syracuse, where they packaged and distributed the drugs over several months in 2020. During the investigation, law enforcement officers seized several kilograms of heroin and fentanyl, multiple firearms. , several vehicles and a large amount of United States currency. The case was investigated by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Syracuse Police Department-Gang Violence Task Force and Special Investigations. Division (GVTF and SID), New York State Police, US Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Enforcement Removal Operations (ICE-ERO), Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn Police Department and Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, and Assistant US Attorney Interrogated by Nicholas Commander.
