Seattle, Wash.Seattle Sounders Football Club announced today that it is exercising 2023 contract options for several players, bringing the club’s roster to 23 contract players next season. Following the conclusion of the Seattle 2022 campaign, Rave Green is now officially entering the 2022-2023 season, with preparations underway for next year.
“ 2022 will be remembered as the year Sounders FC established themselves in the history books by winning the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League,” said Garth Lageroy, General Manager and Head of Football. “This does not take away the disappointment of missing out after a season for the first time in the club’s history, and we are already in the midst of preparations to return in 2023. I would like to thank our players for their hard work throughout the season, as well as the staff for their contributions every day. I would also like to thank all of our fans. for their strong support for the club all year round, this season and every season.”
The following players saw their options exercised for 2023: Josh Atensio, Abdullahi Sissoko, Danny Leyva, Jordan Morris, Jackson Raggan, Dylan Teves and Andrew Thomas. 16 additional players contracted for next season, including Xavier Arreaga, Yeimar Gómez Andrade, Reed Baker-Whiting, Léo Chú, Stefan Cleveland, Ethan Dobbelaere, Stefan Frei, Nicolás Lodeiro, João Paulo, Nouhou, Alex Roldan, Kristian Roldan and Kristian Roldan Rowe, Raul Ruediaz, Albert Rusnak and Obed Vargas.
Sounders FC has rejected Will Bruin and Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez’s contract options. Additionally, Jimmy Medranda’s contract has expired. Freddy Monteiro is still in active discussions with the club, while Sam Adeniran’s status will be decided upon after the end of the post-season period for San Antonio FC, where he is currently on loan.
Sounders FC finished the 2022 campaign with a record 16-17-5 in all competitions. Rave Green became the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League title in the spring, ahead of a regular season that did not keep pace with the Audi MLS Cup qualifiers for the first time in the club’s 14-year history. Seattle heads into the holiday season as its eyes turn to the 2023 campaign, which begins with the FIFA Club World Cup.
