The Steelers activated quarterback TJ Watt from the injured reserve on Saturday, paving the way for him to return on Sunday’s visit from New Orleans.
Watt, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, hasn’t played since tore his left breaststroke in the first-week win over Cincinnati. He underwent minor knee surgery during his IR stay but returned to practice two weeks ago. On Friday, he said he was ready to play.
The Steelers (2-6) struggled without Watt, dropping six of seven without the All-Pro three times and producing only eight sacks. Pittsburgh had seven sacks against the Bengals with Watt in the lineup.
Pittsburgh has ruled out Minka Fitzpatrick’s safety for the match against the Saints (3-6) due to an accessory problem.
• The Tennessee Titans revitalized their first players from the injured reserve, sending starter Treylon Burks and cornerback Elijah Molden back and sidelining veteran back Zach Cunningham and defensive back Josh Thompson.
