World Cup 2022 knockout round scenarios for every team, group

Wondering how each team can advance to the 2022 World Cup knockout stages? You’ve come to the right place.

With only one day left in the second round of group stage matches, it is becoming clearer and clearer who has realistic chances of reaching the last 16. So far, France, Brazil and Portugal are the only teams to progress to the next round while Qatar and Canada are eliminated after the first two matches. This leaves 27 teams vying for the remaining 13 places in the knockout round over the final four days of group play.

Here’s what you need to know before the latest group stage matches begin on Tuesday.

Group A

1. Netherlands 4 points (+2 goal difference)

2. Ecuador, 4 points (+2)

3. Senegal 3 points (0)

4. Diameter 0 points (-4)

Tuesday matches

  • Netherlands – Qatar (10 a.m. ET, FOX)

  • Senegal vs. Ecuador (10 a.m. ET, FS1)

How can each team in Group A advance?

  • Holland: A draw against Qatar settles the Dutch’s lead. Beating Qatar is good enough to win the group with a better goal difference or score more goals than Ecuador if Ecuador wins.

  • Ecuador: A draw against Senegal guarantees progress. Beating Senegal is good enough to win the group with a better goal difference or score more goals than the Netherlands if the Netherlands win.

  • Senegal: Beating Ecuador guarantees progress. A draw is only good enough if Senegal can achieve a better goal difference or score more goals than the Netherlands.

  • Qatar: Can’t advance

Group B

1. England 4 points (+4 goal difference)

2- Iran 3 points (-2)

3. United States 2 points (0)

4- Wales 1 point (-2).

Tuesday matches

  • England-Wales (2pm ET, FS1)

  • United States vs. Iran (2 p.m. ET, FOX)

How can each Group B team advance?

  • England: He would win the group by beating Wales and could advance with a draw. A draw is good enough to win the group if Iran and the United States tie.

  • Iran: He can go ahead with a win and he can win the series with England winning and losing. A draw is good enough to progress as long as Wales don’t beat England.

  • United State: He can advance by defeating Iran. He can win the group by beating Iran and Wales beating England, or winning by five goals against Iran and drawing England and Wales.

  • Wells: He can advance by beating England and drawing between Iran and the United States.

Group C

1. Poland 4 points (+2 goal difference)

2. Argentina, 3 points (+1)

3- Saudi Arabia, 3 points (-1).

4- Mexico, one point (-2).

Wednesday matches

  • Poland-Argentina (2pm EST, FOX)

  • Saudi Arabia – Mexico (2 p.m. ET, FS1)

How each Group C team can advance

  • Poland: He would win the group by defeating Argentina. You will advance with a tie. They could qualify by losing to Argentina if Mexico beat Saudi Arabia and have a better goal difference than Mexico.

  • Argentina: He will advance with a win or a draw. They will win the group beating Poland and Mexico beating Saudi Arabia. He could win the group with a win and a win for Saudi Arabia if the Saudis had a worse goal difference. It could qualify with a tie if Mexico beat Saudi Arabia by two goals or less.

  • Kingdom Saudi Arabia: You will advance with a win. He could win the group with a win and a draw between Poland and Argentina. He can advance with a tie if Poland beats Argentina.

  • Mexico: Poland will advance with a win over Argentina. He can advance with a win and a draw between Argentina and Poland with a better goal difference than Argentina. He can advance with a win and win for Argentina with a better goal difference than Poland.

group d

1. France 6 points (+4 goal difference)

2- Australia 3 points (-2)

3 – Denmark 1 point (-1)

4 – Tunisia 1 point (-1)

Wednesday matches

  • France-Tunisia (10am EST, FOX)

  • Denmark-Australia (10am ET, FS1)

How each Group D team can advance

  • France: has already grabbed the lead and can win the set by drawing or winning.

  • Australia: You will advance with a win. It can advance with a tie if France beats or draws with Tunisia.

  • Denmark: France will advance with a win or a draw with Tunisia.

  • Tunisia: It will advance with a win and a draw between Denmark and Australia.

Group E

1. Spain 4 points (+7 goal difference)

2. Japan 3 points (0)

3 – Costa Rica, 3 points (-6).

4- Germany 1 point (-1)

Thursday matches

  • Spain – Japan (2 p.m. ET, Fox)

  • Germany – Costa Rica (2 p.m. ET, FS1)

How each Group E team can advance

  • Spain: He will win the set with a win or a draw. He can advance losing by a superior goal difference if they draw with Costa Rica or Germany.

  • Japan: He will win the group with a win. They could qualify with a draw and a better goal difference than Costa Rica and Germany if either team finishes with 4 points.

  • Costa Rica: He would win the group with a win and a draw between Japan and Spain. It will advance with a win or a draw and Spain win.

  • Germany: It will advance with Spain winning and winning. Spain will qualify by winning and drawing Japan with a better goal difference or more goals scored than Japan.

Group F

1. Croatia 4 points (+3 on goal difference)

2. Morocco 4 points (+2)

3- Belgium, 3 points (-1).

4. Canada, 0 points

Thursday matches

  • Croatia vs. Belgium (10 a.m. ET, FOX)

  • Canada – Morocco (10 a.m. ET, FS1)

How can each of the Group F teams advance

  • Croatia: Morocco will win the group with a win, a draw or a loss. It will win the group with a win and a win for Morocco and a better goal difference. You will advance with a tie.

  • Morocco: Croatia will win the group with a win, a draw or a loss. Croatia will win the group with a better goal difference. It will qualify with a draw and a win for Croatia or a draw.

  • Belgium: Morocco will win the group with a win, a draw or a loss. Morocco will advance with a draw and a loss.

  • Canada: Can’t advance

Group G

1. Brazil 6 points (+3 on goal difference)

2. Switzerland 3 points (0)

3 – Cameroon 1 point (-1)

4- Serbia, 1 point (-2)

Friday matches

  • BRAZIL VS CAMEROON (2PM EST, FOX)

  • Serbia – Switzerland (2 p.m. ET, FS1)

How each Group G team can advance

  • Brazil: Already grab the lead and win the set with a draw or a win.

  • Switzerland: You will advance with a win. Brazil will advance with a win or a draw. They could win the group with a win and a win for Cameroon and with a better goal difference than Brazil.

  • Cameroon: Serbia will advance with a win and a win. Switzerland will qualify with a win and a draw with Serbia and a better goal difference than Switzerland.

  • Serbia: They will qualify with a Cameroon win and a better goal difference than Cameroon.

group h

1. Portugal 6 points (+3 goal difference)

2. Ghana 3 points (0)

3- South Korea 1 point (-1)

4- Uruguay, one point (-2).

Friday matches

  • Portugal – South Korea (10am EST, FOX)

  • Uruguay – Ghana (10 a.m. ET, FS1)

How each Group H team can progress

  • Portugal: Already grab the lead and win the set with a draw or a win.

  • Ghana: He will advance with a win or a draw. It would win the group with a win and a win for South Korea and a better goal difference than Portugal.

  • South Korea: They will qualify with Uruguay beating Ghana and a better goal difference than Uruguay.

  • Uruguay: It will qualify with Portugal beating South Korea and with a better goal difference than South Korea.
